The Cure and Mission Of Burma blow up the bunker at the Underground!

If you were listening to local college radio stations WTBS’s Late Risers Club and WERS’s Nightclub you might have picked up on The Cure early…if you didn’t you probably missed them on their first US tour at the Underground. A five dollar ticket got you into the show to see both Mission of Burma and The Cure. It was the Harvard Graduate look-a-like Robert Smith’s 21st Birthday, and he was in a festive mood and certainly didn’t disappoint the standing room only club that packed in the concrete bunker. Smith graciously dedicated the final song “Seventeen Seconds” to Mission of Burma before they left the club that night. You can enjoy two clips here of both MOB and the Cure and go over to the Archival Portal for several more. There are also complete mp3 sets of both the MOB and The Cure sets from that night on the Flashpoint mp3 section. Also you might want to check out the German site www.cure-concerts.de for some inside information provided by both the Cure and MIT film crew on what went down during and after the show on that very special night April 21st 1980.
